Helen Zille opens Riebeeck Valley Special School.

The Riebeek Valley Reporter article:

"The weather could have been better (it was pouring with rain) but spirits were not dampened as pupils, staff and guests awaited the arrival of Helen Zille, Western Cape Premier, in the school hall where she was due to officially open the school. She was accompanied by Donald Grant, Western Cape Minister of Education and a number of other dignitaries. In a witty speech she commented that it was a change to attend an event at an already successful facility. Frequently she attended functions where grandiose plans were announced but
then little or nothing happened. The school choir gave a stunning performance and a brass plaque was unveiled.

There was significant police presence apparently because a demonstration protesting at school closures had been expected (seems odd to plan a protest of this type at a school opening?!). The police were not needed since no one pitched (the rain perhaps)."
