The Steel Band Project

"The Steel Band, run by David Wickham for a number of years now, provides an opportunity for local children to develop music skills and confidence.
The band also provides opportunities for the children to perform at local events such as the annual Olive Festival, and occasionally in Cape Town.

There are 3 steelbands in Riebeek - one at the Primary School and two (senior & junior) in Esterhof.
The senior steelband has been going for 13 years and has 13 members. It has a repertoire of over 30 tunes, from African to jazz to caribbean favourites.
The junior band has 20 members and has 10 songs in its repertoire.
Both bands are very adept at playing at weddings, festivals and other functions.
